Alamo Dog Obedience Club offers training classes for owners of companion dogs. The Club also offers classes for handlers and dogs for competition in the obedience and rally obedience rings. Classes are designed for owners and their dogs to work together to complete the training goals of the class under the guidance of an experienced instructor. Instructors are members of the Alamo Dog Obedience Club.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Puppy Shaping/Foundations for Performance Sports
In this eight-week course, puppies and young adult dogs will learn basic self-control to become good family companions with the ability to move on to dog performance sports, such as agility, rally or obedience, through positive games. Basic skills include targeting, sit, down, come, stand, back up, and stay using toys and soft food rewards. A dog crate, head halter or buckle collar, interactive dog toy, soft dog treats, and a notebook or journal for note- taking are required. A dog bed and a mat or cot will be needed in the fourth week. Exercise pens in will be used in the sixth week (Three exercise pens will be provided for class participants during instructional time). Basic
This course is for dogs 6 months of age through adult, larger dogs slightly under 6 months and older dogs with no previous obedience training. This course includes basic obedience skills for the companion dog and for the dog preparing to enter the Novice class.
Beginner Novice
The beginner novice class provides further training in basic companion dog skills. This is a transition class for handlers and dogs who have completed basic obedience classes and offers advanced basic skills preparatory to participating in the novice class level. In this class, handlers and dogs are introduced to the AKC Canine Good Citizen™ Program (CGC) which will prepare the dog to be well-mannered and confident in social situations and can lead to the dog earning an AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate in a CGC test.
This class also prepares the handler and dog for competing in Beginner Novice obedience competition, an optional titling class offered by AKC. Using a combination of traditional obedience and rally obedience signs to communicate directions, handlers and dogs learn to demonstrate pre-novice obedience skills such as heel on leash, figure eight, sit for examination, sit -stay, and recall exercises in a trial situation.
Novice
This course is for dogs with previous obedience training and dogs getting ready for competition in obedience trials. This class includes training in precision exercises required for competition in the AKC Novice obedience class. Dogs entering novice class will be evaluated by the instructor for readiness skills.
Rally Essentials
This course is for dogs and handlers with previous novice training. This class includes preparation and training for competition in the AKC novice, advanced and excellent rally obedience classes. Handlers receive instruction in AKC rally obedience rules and signs for the three levels of rally competition.
Open
This course is for dogs successfully completing the novice class. This class provides training in precision exercises required for competition in the AKC open obedience class.
Utility
This course is for dogs with previous obedience training in the open class. This class provides training in precision exercises required for competition in the AKC utility obedience class.
